Tension fabric structures help a military base fulfill its mission.
It all started with a deadline. A key military base was the designated site for a 10-year development program, but it didn’t have the necessary facilities - or the time to build them before the program was due to begin. Waiting 5-7 years for MILCON and traditional construction simply wasn’t an option.
In search of a solution, base personnel discovered Cocoon’s tension fabric structures which offer an alternative to traditional construction and take far less time and money to build.
“Waiting 5-7 years for MILCON and traditional construction simply wasn’t an option.”
These tension fabric structures feature prefabricated, precision-engineered steel frames which are clad in PVC-coated polyester, with the option of concrete or metal sidewalls. The structures are fully code-compliant and have proven their durability in areas with significant wind, snow, and seismic loads.
By turning to this alternative construction method, the base was able to build the necessary infrastructure in time to secure the development program - and achieve significant savings in the process. They discovered that sometimes accomplishing the mission involves thinking outside the bricks and mortar box. In fact, they found tension fabric structures so effective they’ve used them for a number of other projects on base.
These structures have been used by all branches of the military for everything from hangars and warehouse to training facilities and sunshades. If you’re curious about how they might fit your own timeline or requirements, connect with us here.
