PLM: Product Configuration Coordinator

Role Overview

Cocoon Inc. is seeking a Product Configuration Coordinator to be the keeper of technical data for Cocoon’s products, managing configuration baselines for solutions ranging from advanced protective covers to aerospace insulation components. Responsibilities include ensuring configuration identification, managing product structure, and traceability of products to end-item interface compatibility. The PCC will ensure that all configuration documentation is completed to relevant standards, working cross-functionally to facilitate internal standards improvement as needed, and facilitate configuration verifications in preparation for document submission to auditors. The Product Configuration Coordinator will manage the ECP process, working internally and externally to ensure changes are justified, reviewed, documented, and implemented in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Base line Management

  • Establish and maintain product baseline (functional, allocated, and product) documentation to ensure full traceability throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Assist in the testing and validation of configuration updates and new product introductions to ensure design intent meets functional requirements.

Data Integrity and Traceability

  • Manage item master data and revision history to ensure compliance and origin traceability for all raw materials.

  • Ensure accurate data is maintained in ERP system.

  • Collaborate with Production and Quality teams to verify that outbound customer orders match the required product configuration and revision levels.

BOM Governance

  • Verify and update multi-level BOMs including technical fabrics, hardware, attachments, and vendor specified items, ensuring alignment with physical production.

Change Control Administration

  • Facilitate configuration change management process between cross-functional groups.

  • Support the execution of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and monitor product lifecycle updates to prevent version drift.

  • Review Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) for impact on product performance, cost, and DoD contract compliance, ensuring quality is never compromised.

Regulatory and Audit Support

  • Conduct Functional and Physical Configuration Audits (FCA/PCA) to verify that products match technical documentation for AS9100 or DoD inspections.

  • Stakeholder Management: Experience interfacing directly with DCMA or customer auditors with a high degree of professional composure.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related technical discipline

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment supporting aerospace, Defense, or other highly regulated industry is preferred.

  • 3–5+ years in configuration management within a highly regulated industry (Aerospace, or Defense preferred).

  • Knowledge of configuration change management principles.

  • Knowledge of bills of materials, technical documents, product drawings, schematics, diagrams, and specifications.

  • Project Management Certifications are a plus.

Capabilities

  • Strong understanding of technical testing properties (e.g., ASTM, AATCC, ISO, etc.) and their documentation.

  • Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with configuration standards such as EIA-649 and quality standards like ISO 9001/AS 9100.

  • Experience with Government contract data (CDRL/SDRL) requirements.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities for supplier and internal team engagement.

  • Attention to precision: A “quality first” mindset with the communication skills to coach others on the importance of data integrity without being seen as a bottleneck.

Travel & Work Environment

  • Occasional travel (up to 25%+) to Customers, Cocoon South prototyping facility (NC), and supply chain partner facilities requiring overnight accommodation.

  • Perform tasks that require sustained concentration while standing and paying attention to fine details in visual inspections.

  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 25–50 pounds as needed for (quality inspections or material handling).

  • Location: Onsite at Headquarters, North Hampton NH preferred.
