Cocoon to build a 100,000 sq. ft. Corrosion-Free Environment for the Marine Corps.

Marine Force Storage Command (MFSC) is charged with making sure the equipment it stores is ready when the Corps needs it. To help maintain peak readiness, MFSC has called on Cocoon to provide a 100,000 sq. ft. facility to include a dehumidification system.

The Corrosion-Free Environment will consist of two 100’ by 500 ’ linked structures for a total footprint of 200’ by 500’ and will be used primarily for vehicle storage. The challenge with vehicles is that their various components corrode at different RH levels. For example, the environment has to be dry enough to protect computer systems and electronics, but not so dry as to put rubber and elastomers at risk. The sweet spot is a relative humidity (RH) level of 40% (+/- 5%) which completely protects every component and ensures these critical assets will be in peak readiness when they’re needed.

Also included is a remote monitoring service that provides real-time alerts and encrypted weekly and monthly reports to ensure the facility stays at optimal RH levels.

The facility is expected to be operational within 12 months thanks to the utilization of steel-framed fabric structures engineered and manufactured by Rubb Building Systems USA. These building code compliant structures can be operational in far less time, and at far lower cost, than traditional construction.
